The MAM-Care study is a research protocol examining whether information materials and behavioural nudges can support women in choosing birthing positions that feel appropriate to them during labour.

The study is not a trial showing that one birthing position is better than another. It is an exploratory, controlled pre-post study being conducted across six obstetric departments in Germany. Its primary outcome is the proportion of women who report that their final birthing position felt appropriate.

The intervention includes illustrated information, position cards and other prompts intended to make movement and choice easier during labour. Researchers will also examine maternal and neonatal outcomes, assisted birth, episiotomy, perineal tears and other clinical measures.

Because this is a protocol, it describes what researchers plan to test rather than providing evidence that the intervention works. The non-randomised design and German setting may also limit how widely any future findings can be generalised.
