Semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) are prescription medicines used for weight management in selected adults. They reduce appetite and increase satiety, but they are not suitable for everyone and NHS access depends on clinical eligibility.

Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Mounjaro acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Both are given by injection and are used alongside dietary and physical-activity support rather than as stand-alone treatments.

NHS access is not the same for every patient or every area. Semaglutide is generally prescribed through specialist weight-management services, while tirzepatide is being introduced through a phased NHS rollout that initially prioritises people with the highest clinical need. Eligibility can depend on BMI, weight-related conditions and local commissioning arrangements.

These medicines can cause adverse effects and have important precautions. People should not buy unregulated versions online or change doses without clinical advice. Anyone considering treatment should discuss benefits, risks and eligibility with an appropriate healthcare professional.
