A UK multicentre randomised controlled trial has evaluated an internet-delivered Acceptance and Commitment Therapy programme for family carers of people with dementia who reported anxiety symptoms.

The intervention, known as iACT4CARERS, was designed as online self-help with limited therapist support. The study is more informative than an early feasibility report because it used a parallel randomised design across UK healthcare settings.
The relevant outcome is not that a generic “digital therapy platform” has been proved to solve caregiver strain. The trial tested one defined psychological intervention in a selected group of family carers, with anxiety as an important outcome. Results should therefore be interpreted within that population and intervention.
Digital programmes may lower practical barriers for some carers, but they do not replace dementia services, crisis care or personalised assessment when these are needed. Carers experiencing significant anxiety or distress should seek appropriate professional support.
